State of the Bird, Thursday Edition
May. 7th, 2009 12:28 pmRecipe: Lazy Enchiladas
Dinner last night was what I call Lazy Enchiladas. Instead of rolling the meat and cheese up in neat little tortilla rolls, I put down layers: tortillas, meat, cheese, sauce, tortillas, etc. until the 9x12 dish is almost full; then I finish it up with a last layer of tortillas, sauce and LOTS of cheese. Cover with foil, then bake at 350 for 40 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes until the top starts to get crispy.
It's basically an enchilada casserole. I can make it with beans, or make my own enchilada sauce, and spice it up however I want. It's always tasty. :)
Work
Thanks to my new light box, I have completely redrawn the first page of Nameless. In the process, I fixed some anatomy things that were bugging me, and made some updates to character design -- in particular, Pau's hair and Feinne's costume. I'm much better-pleased with how it looks now.
I'm still wrestling with two things: one is how long it takes for me to get anything done with this, and another is debating how stylized I want it to be. Granted, the more I stylize things, the faster I'll be able to work. It's possible to stylize something and still pay attention to anatomy, and I need to figure out a balance that works for me.
The real point is this: last night my husband commented to me that if I'm going to be serious about this project, I have to make more than one page every four months. He's right! To do that, I have several options: 1) Be less picky about the art, 2) Stylize the characters more, 3) Find a way to increase the work time, 4) Work faster and more efficiently.
